    The default setting should be set back to On, there are a lot of problems with new users knowing nothing about this and being unable to participate in the site

    Not you specifically, but just in general. I've been here a while and it's definitely changed. I've always been able to PM users unless they explicitly set their PM settings to friends only or whatever. Having friends-only be the default is a catch 22 because users won't add friends they...

    Have the default settings been changed? Having new users have to learn about PM settings to be able to chat seems like a big step backwards
